Week 4 Task : Final Draft poster + 500 words text

This is the final DRAFT A2 Poster, along with the 500 words text.

Leaf Structure – “Organic” Structure to Structural “Design”
Leaf is an organic natural object which is the important key element to help balance the equilibrium of nature. Leaf plays it great important role in the nature. As can be described as “the source of food” of all the trees, leaf then become a significant key element which is formed with great structure itself and function its role to satisfy the nature.
Leaf plays its part where it circulates the food around the tree. With the tubes that are consisted of two types that help transport food and water for tree. Moreover leaf hold on the process of photosynthesis that transform all the food received into carbohydrate and so produce seed and fruit. Considering such a great important role of the leaf, leaf then has its own great complex structure in order to process those systems.
Leaf Structure consisted of varieties of different piece of the geometry on the surface and also “inside” the structure that formed layer to the leaf. In each layer the function and role is also different. According to this fact I then came up with the idea of taking leaf structure into the approach of structural design model. On the surface of the model, it is a formation on different shape of geometry lays on top of the tube structure that run across the whole structure and all connected. This is to represent the idea that “xylem” and “phloem”, the tubes which is transport foods  in tree, is represented in the “tube” or “pipe” form, running around the layer underneath the top surface. These tubes are formed in relation to the point on the surface. In each end of geometry shape on the surface, points on edge of the shape will be the start point for the tube. The reason this idea applied is that to show that the tube take the food from the surface and then bring it across the whole structure running across, overlap and parallel to other tube from other point on the surface and so transport food to the lower level of layer in leaf. Similar to how the system of xylem and phloem works.
In addition to the detail in structure, the overall “look” of the model is also presented in leaf-liked organic form. This is to support the idea and emphasize the relationship to the leaf structure that I want to show.  The main structure of the model is that the curvy line which present the sense of organic element and the straight tube line which present the idea of engineering system that created in the incredible piece of nature. This idea creates a great contrast in term of “natural element” and “engineering system”. It seems to amaze me that such a tiny piece of leaf can contain such a great system that consisted of great structure in a complex level. Leaf can be one of the amazing structure system that function a great role for the most important element, such the tree.

Week 3 Task : Going through tutorials and experimenting on model

I have been through some of the suggested tutorials from other students' blogs and so I have tried to learn the one that I think it could be applied into my model project.

The first tutorial is that the randomized field tutorial which teach me to create the point places in random position. This could be developed to the points where will be the centre of each piece of geometry for my model. Since the main idea is that, random point form random shape and structure.

Another tutorial is that divide point on curve and create pipe. "Pipe" or "tube" are the term and element that I have mentioned previously in the blog update. Tubes can be considered as the main structure in my model. Therefore this tutorial could be useful for my model project as well. Since I want to create a tube that run through the whole structure of the model.

Then I experimented on the diffrent shape. I was playing around with circle which for now can be replace the the random shpae that I will have to develop later on.

As well as the circles above but I ctried on with LINE and create pipes t make a solid tube into structure. Result in more complicate structure with the connection of line and tubes.

I then extrude the line to create the structure, to have the height component. This is the create the structure that consisted of base, depth and height.

Playing around with the value and link, result in this structure.

Student Suggested Tutorials

Randomized Field Tutorail

As the basic principle that will be applied to my model is that randome point which will be created and then extend the shape of geometry from those points. Therefore by learning how to create a random point in feild is the starting point to my model.

The tutorail twil ltake you through how to create a single basic point and duplicat that point into a series of point and then arrange them in random position.

Divide and Pipe Tutorial

The other tutorial that I found which could be interesting and can be applied to my model is that the divide and pipe tutorial. The tutrial show you how to use basic to line to create series of point then pipe them.

As I have ben researching on the structure of leaf (relating to my theme) it is seem to be consisted of series of tube or "pipe" therfore this tutorail might be useful in order to create those pipe structure and implement them into my model later on.

Task to be completed for week 3 : More images supprting the idea

Followed images are some of the picture to support my idea toward the model I will be making. The images cover on the basic structure of the leaf in 2D and 3D form for futher understanding on the strcuture. As well as to get the idea of how the pattern on the leaf form and look like in greater detail.

The first image show the structure of leaf in section, the drawing show the different of each layer in leaf. Each "group" of layer is function differently lead to the idea of the layer in mymodel will be consisted of different shape in different level.

Image1

Second image, showing the pattern of leaf in greater detail. As we can see in the picture, there are a small "dot" in each slot of geometry. Those dots are nuclei of leaf, playing part as the control cell of the leaf. Similarly to the centre of the shape which wil control the parameter of the geometry.
Image 2

Thrid image, showing the surface of leaf in 3D from. It shows each layer and components of leaf in 3D which allows me to investigate the different in layer and how it sits together as a leaf structure hence ideas toward my model.
Image 3

The next image show the main structure of the leaf. As dried leaf left of with the tube structure that can be emphasised and shown. This "tube" structure will be considered as the main structure for my model later on.
Image 4

Last image to support my idea toward the model is that, picture of leaf in great detail. Likely in the cell detail level I can see the main tube that running through the leaf. Clearer in the sense of how each geometry looks like on the leaf.
